Principal's Corner

3rd Quarter Letter

Hello Jaguars.

We are now knee deep in the 3rd quarter and have 70 days remaining in this school year. This month, our Winter Sports activities are coming to an end. We are extremely proud of our scholar athletes as we had swimmers and wrestlers make it to the State tournament for the first time in our school’s history. Our basketball teams had a great season as our Lady Jaguars are moving on to the regional semi-finals this month. We are also very proud of the Fall and Winter Performances of our Fine Arts Magnet Education students!  Last month, our very own InTonation Acapella group made it to the International Competition of High School A Cappella quarterfinals. This month, our FAME students are presenting a Black History Show entitled “Honoring African-American Trailblazers in the Arts.”

Our FAME program also has several upcoming spring performances that you don’t want to miss!  Let’s continue to support the “character, academic, and talent” development of our students through cheering them on in their academic and extracurricular performances. In March, we will have our first annual College Recognition Day by having a special ceremony honoring all of our graduating seniors that have earned scholarships, been accepted to college, and/or have already confirmed post-secondary plans with their counselor. In the April Local School Council meeting, I will present our school’s performance data to the Local Council for review. I would love to have you join us and offer feedback on how we might continue to improve.

During the month of February, we make every effort to involve students and parents in the registration process through analyzing our students’ current academic performance and by to create an academic plan for the upcoming school year. This planning process is extremely important for our freshmen and sophomores.

Your child's current teachers have already recommended academic courses based on student performance levels. Parents, you should have received a notice from your child's advisor to set up an advisement appointment.  We will have advisement nights by appointment on February 16th and 28th from 4:00 PM - 7:30 PM. All parents that need support with the scheduling process are highly encouraged to make an appointment for one of the scheduled advisement nights.

Your child's current teachers have recommended academic courses based on student academic performance. Students and parents may now log on to Infinite Campus to choose elective courses. Please note that students must meet the pre-requisites to take advanced electives. We have posted a registration handbook, list of advisors, and directions for course registration on our website under the "News & Events" section.

We also encourage all parents to review our registration handbook to gain a better understanding of specific graduation requirements, course sequence, and information on electives and programs such as Move on When Ready and our College and Career Institute.

I am Mr. Holland, the principal of New Manchester High School.  As always, we appreciate all that you do to support the students and staff in the Jaguar Nation, where our mission is to provide meaningful learning experiences that the develop the character, academic ability, and talent of all students.
