She also has a five year old grandson (The Apple of her Eye).

She started her career in education for St. Louis Public Schools as a Teacher’s Assistant II in 1990. While working as a Teacher’s Assistant II and Continuing Substitute Teacher in Special Education, Dr. Buchanan completed her degree in Secondary English Education. Currently, Dr. Buchanan works as a Tenth Grade and American Literature teacher at New Manchester High School in Douglas County, Douglasville Georgia. Her teaching philosophy is “Students do not care how much you know until they know how much you care.”  She displays her compassion for teaching children by developing relationships with each of her students which demonstrate how much she cares about them individually. She works very hard to get her students to understand that they must not only be successful in the classroom, but outside of the classroom. She also enjoys assisting students with their post-secondary endeavors and/or goals which will shape them into becoming well-rounded productive citizens in their communities. Her personal philosophy is “Patience, Power, and Perseverance equals Success.”
