About the SAT & ACT

What are the SAT and ACT?

Both ACT and SAT scores are used for college admissions decisions and awarding merit-based scholarships. The SAT and ACT generally cover the same topics. Most colleges do not prefer one test over the other. Georgia colleges accept both. If you are considering an out-of-state college, please research the college’s requirements for the SAT and ACT.

Should I Take the ACT or SAT?

Students are increasingly taking both the SAT and ACT. Changes made to the SAT in 2016 have made it easier than ever to prep for both tests concurrently—and earn competitive scores on both!

The best way to decide if taking the SAT, ACT, or both tests is right for you is to take a timed
full-length practice test of each type. Since the content and style of the SAT and ACT are very similar, factors like how you handle time pressure and what types of questions you find most challenging can help you determine which test is a better fit.

Here is a brief overview of the basic structural and logistical differences between the ACT and SAT:

Convert Your SAT Scores to ACT Scores

It’s becoming increasingly common for students to take both the SAT and the ACT in preparation for the college admissions process. The ACT and the College Board conducted a study to determine the relationship between ACT scores and SAT scores. The ACT & SAT Conversion Chart below is based on the results of that study and represent total/composite scores.
